Disaster Strikes as Accidental Blast at Police Station in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Claims Nine Deaths
A tragic detonation at a law enforcement facility in Indian-administered Kashmir has led to the loss of nine individuals and wounding to thirty-two others, according to authority reports.
The occurrence occurred when a stockpile of confiscated explosives unintentionally detonated during management operations.
Sequence of Incidents
The detonation occurred on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam police station, where blast substances confiscated in the Faridabad area in the northern territory of Haryana province were being kept briefly.
Area security director declared that the blast materials were awaiting forensic examination when a "deeply regrettable" mishap during handling caused their explosion at approximately 23:20 local time.
Authority Declarations
Police authorities asserted that this was an "unintentional explosion" and not a terror incident. "Any other speculation regarding the reason of this occurrence is unwarranted," highlighted the law enforcement head during a journalist meeting.
The security post suffered extensive destruction from the detonation, with neighboring structures also being affected by the strong explosion.
Aftermath and Fatalities
Several automobiles were "covered in blaze and reduced to charred husks, with wreckage spread across the site," according to authority statements.
"The force of the explosion was such that some physical fragments were found in adjacent homes, approximately between 100 and 200 meters from the security post," stated an police contact.
The majority of the victims were law enforcement personnel, along with forensic personnel, two crime scene photographers, and a tailor who was present with the personnel.

The area's Lieutenant Governor expressed condolences and announced that an inquiry had been ordered into the tragic incident.
"I have ordered a investigation to ascertain the reason of the accidental explosion. Profoundly distressed by the fatalities of important persons due to exceptionally devastating accidental blast at Nowgam police station in the Srinagar area. My sympathies to the mourning loved ones. I wish for speedy recovery of the harmed," stated the official on social media.
