Eulogies Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the duo.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, stated he just recently felt able to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has gone by that I can finally articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started passing more hours together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the production, adding that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the ideal person to guide it," Elwes expressed.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a distinct piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he comprehended the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Sealed
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to block the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order issued a security hold on the cases to limit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" connected to the active case.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Fallout and Commentary
Following the tragedy, public figures shared varying comments.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making divisive statements that were met with immediate backlash by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the critics recently. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the comments as "shocking" and suggested they demonstrated a concerning absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by remarking that an aide ought to have stepped in when the decision to speak on the death was made.
