Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Major ATC System Failure
Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a major air traffic control outage halted all operations.
All aircraft movements were halted due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.
Several flyers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.
Services Recommence with Continued Disruption
Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
Nonetheless, ongoing issues are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.
A spokesperson had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.
"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.
Source of the Issue
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as backlogs are cleared.
