Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
