Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just half a year following leading derogatory songs aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road was ended through agreement this past summer.
Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting songs about Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Currently, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
Everything appears has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no problem at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
The forward made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
