The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
In response to these assertions, the head of a major education union dismissed the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
Reform, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks suggested the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I mean this. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
