Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic Tabletop Role-Playing Game
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to develop a tabletop RPG that explores the series' apocalyptic setting. This initiative has been announced, with a crowdfunding campaign planned to begin in April of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the table, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Initial offerings will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, figurines, and various premium versions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this setting, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was released in NYC, plunging the United States into chaos. As the pandemic escalates, civil order breaks down and violent factions rise, turning the city into a warzone. To restore law and order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Work on the game has been underway for approximately three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider audience, particularly in North America. Production is slated to begin right after the campaign, with shipping expected for later in 2026.
An Innovative Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the system confirms it uses 10-sided dice exclusively through its new GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and tactical style. Agents leverage abilities to assemble a handful of dice, usually from one to five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, participants select a single “result die” from the pool.
- This die is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a natural 10 grants additional bonuses, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Positioning and Situational Insight
Fights stress placement and environmental awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This system is designed to favor coordination and clever tactics instead of raw numbers.
A Novel Wound Mechanic
The way health is tracked adds a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their effectiveness by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an operative is downed, but they’re not unconscious.
- They may still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
- Any player knocked down must consult a trauma table, potentially gaining lingering conditions like trauma or crippling injuries.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released in the near future. It contains a ready-to-play introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the search for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup will be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
